Law student pro bono is an important response to access to justice challenges in Canada. Our projects seek to train law students through practical, supervised learning experiences, while simultaneously increasing access to justice for low-income individuals and not-for-profit organizations, as well as promoting a culture of pro bono within the legal profession.
We have a variety of different project models meant to accommodate a diverse array of organizations and projects. Our goal is to work with our partners to develop projects that truly respond to their needs. Through our projects we hope to promote equality and the full enjoyment of human rights, by prioritizing the needs of the most marginalized and vulnerable in a practical and people-centred way. Projects can focus on legal research and writing, public legal education, client intake and assistance, advocacy or interning.
A detailed list of last year’s projects can be found here: 2018-2019 PBSC-UVic Project List
Early-bird applications for all upper-year students will open in mid-August and all applications for 1Ls will open in early September.
