How do you find a firm committed to pro bono?

As a student researching prospective employers, whether for articling or the dreaded OCI preparations, you will likely want to assess a law firm’s culture. If you are committed to improving access to justice, assessing a firm’s commitment to pro bono can be an important part of this process. Being proactive will help you select a firm that supports your values and career goals!

Pro Bono Students Canada believes that pro bono service is an important obligation of every member of the legal profession and that incorporating pro bono into your student experience, articling career, and future legal practice is highly beneficial to developing your skills and competencies.  This is why we want to help you figure out what to look for when researching potential employers and have some suggestions for questions you may want to ask when navigating those tricky conversations! Call for 2018-2019 Partner Organizations

The University of Victoria Chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is currently looking for organizations to partner with for projects commencing in the 2018-2019 school year.

Get Involved will be your toolbox for partnering with us – check it out to familiarize yourself with our partner guidelines!

Our Projects will provide you with information about the types of projects PBSC works on and descriptions of last year’s projects to help get you started on brainstorming one for your organization.

We recommend contacting us via e-mail so that we can set-up a meeting in June. Let’s get to know one another, discuss potential project ideas, and review our partnership guidelines! Following this, Project Description Forms must be submitted by mid-July.  Students will be recruited in September and projects will run for the duration of the 2018-2019 school year.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you in the coming year!
